I am very happy that since I had the morning free, I was able to finish my [livejournal.com profile] merlin_holidays gift and will be adding it to the AO3 site tomorrow. WHEW! I had to learn a whole new Adobe product for this one.

And speaking of, I really wish there was a way to rate the quality of the Adobe video tutorials, because some of them are supremely irritating. But in the spirit of the holiday, I should be giving thanks that there are tutorials at all.

I have been LJ AWOL for the last few days as I was wrapping this up and I hope to catch up this weekend. That is why, [livejournal.com profile] dizzojay, I have not replied to you about your story. Thanks for sending me the link. It will be the first thing I read this weekend.

And for all my American flisties, Happy Thanksgiving!

ETA: More things I am thankful for:
- Really wonderful friends and a lovely family
- A great job and financial security
- Freedom (even if it means I live in a country where you are free to be an idiot)
- Show
- Y'all
- John Oliver

I spent way too much time today trying to turn this gif that I created into that icon.

Title: No Satisfaction (SPN/Mission: Impossible 1966, part of the Wind of Change AU) PDF
Author: San Antonio Rose (ramblin_rosie)
Pairing: Gen with dubious Dana/OMC and brief did-they-or-didn't-they Dana/Paris
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 23,754
Disclaimer: Not mine... and that might be a good thing.
Warnings: Cult practices, mind control, drug use, references to dub-con
Summary: Rather than breaking the Great Wall of Sam to sideline the Winchesters at the end of Season 6, Cas stranded them in 1969, whereupon the brothers not only began trying to fix the timeline but also joined the IMF. Two years later, they've already taken out Azazel, with Gabriel's help, and cemented their role as Team Phelps' paranormal experts. So when Jim gets word of a cult being built up as cover for extracting classified information from its unwary members, he calls Sam and Dean--only for them to discover that the chief source of the cult leader's power is Famine's ring. Yet even after the brothers, working with Barney and Willy, reveal a still darker layer to the secrets lurking beneath the cult's idyllic veneer, Jim insists on having Paris and Dana infiltrate and help bring the cult down from inside. It's one of those missions where Murphy's Law applies in spades, and as if Paris being a shapeshifter weren't hazard enough, things get complicated in a hurry when Dana develops a raging case of the baby bug. Can Sam and Dean get the ring back in time to save their team... and what will they do with the ring if they succeed?

My notes:
What a terrific story! I hadn't read the other two stories that preceded this until after I claimed this one, but I immediately went to find them and have greatly enjoyed all three. And what inspiration it provided! I latched onto this idea of integrating the SPN characters into the show's introduction and couldn't let it go, despite it being way beyond my Photoshop skill level. I initially thought I could manage a series of gifs (all of the parts together would have created a gif file too big to post anywhere), but [livejournal.com profile] ramblin_rosie suggested mixing in the music and a friend supplied me with a shortened version of the theme.

Then I had to learn how to use a video editing program.

The saga of my flailing around for the last two months trying to pull this together is described below, underneath the cut. Feel free to ignore it and just enjoy the art!

Technology is doing me wrong today. I downloaded the Flipboard app on my Kindle Fire and not only cannot I not seem to locate the Flipboards on SPN, nothing about this app seems to be working the way it is described.

Then I followed a tutorial on using KM Player to make screencaps of DVD, an exercise that ended in program errors and headdesking.

Worse, my google fu failed me completely in finding solutions online to these problems. Eeeerrrrrghhh.

The good thing to report?  I have discovered The Bugle! Okay, I actually heard of it over a year ago and have been saving episodes in iTunes since then, but it wasn't until last week that I started listening to it. And it is freakin' HYSTERICAL. I play it as I walk to and from work and honestly, people are shying away from me on the streets as I bark with laughter. This morning I had to turn it off and calm down before entering the Library because I was almost crying I was laughing so hard. It's a good thing to start (and end) your workday with a laugh. Helped me deal with all the technology-induced aggravation.

and that it didn't take me so long to learn new things ... and it wasn't so hard to remember how to do them again later.

Yay, me!

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] transfixeddream's excellent tutorial on creating animated gifs using Photoshop, I created my first one:

I am SO EXCITED about this, it is ridiculous.

In other news, work has calmed down slightly and I look forward to returning to my flist and catching up on some reading.

Other updates:

I saw Mat Kearney in concert last week and loved it. He has such a beautiful voice, which unfortunately was overwhelmed at times by bad sound engineering (TOO MUCH BASS!).

Matt Bomer came out and then I read an article in Entertainment Weekly about him and Joe Manganiello being college friends and now starring with Channing Tatum in that male stripper movie based on Tatum's past. So ... um... SLASH OPPORTUNITY HERE, PEOPLE!

I'm headed to the LA Con next week, but this one is more about seeing friends than experiencing the convention. I only bought a GA ticket and apart from a Richard & Matt meet and greet, won't be doing anything extra. Maybe I'll get out of the hotel and actually see something of Burbank or LA.  Oh, wait! I just looked it up and there are two outdoor pools. I won't be going anywhere. :D

I hope I'll be seeing some of you there.
