A few things:

A very happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] simplymarvie  and early birthday greetings  to [livejournal.com profile] ignipes and [livejournal.com profile] topaz119.

Qustion: I am absolutely sure that at some point I saw a really beautifully made fanvid set to OneRepublic's Marching On. But I can't find it. Anyone have a link?

Here are some fic recs, in which are represented some schmoop, some humor, and some angst.

Someone Else’s Story by Miss 'Drea  ([livejournal.com profile] placeofinsanity)
Author's summary: John gives the boys up for adoption, and at an early age Dean and Sam are separated then later adopted into two different families, in two different states. By a chance of Fate (whose name is Castiel) the two brothers find each other - Sam’s in 10th grade, the youngest in his class having skipped several grades, and Dean, also in 10th grade is his ‘penpal’. Dean thinks the whole thing is dumb, Sam’s just glad to have a friend.
My input: A story told mainly through art, and absolutely beautiful art it is. An intriguing, interesting idea that is lovingly executed.

Method (with My Madness) by [livejournal.com profile] bewaretheides15
Author's summary: Three and a half years after he first set eyes on Jared Padalecki and felt some integral part of his brain melt, Jensen finds out that Jared is into guys. Through Facebook. Prequel to:
Developments
Author's summary: Seriously, who besides little old ladies that are scared of their 'internet boxes' actually takes pictures on film anymore? Evidently, the answer is 'people who buy shitty one-time-use cameras on their tour of nude beaches'.
My input: Both were great stories, but Developments was a hoot!

Missing What You Never Wanted by [livejournal.com profile] aythia
Author's summary: Mating is a well known phenomenon in the world, but with almost seven billion people in the world not many find their one true mate. And even if you do find your mate, it's not sure that said mate will appreciate being found.
My input: An emotionally intense story about two very different people bound together by sexual desire, but nothing else between them. The author does an amazing job showing how they work through their issues into a real relationship.

Night of the Living Dead by [livejournal.com profile] ignipes
Author's summary: There is nothing worse than being up a tree without a flamethrower while surrounded by a horde of brain-eating zombies.
My input: "Hey, Sam? I want a flamethrower for Christmas." All I want for Christmas is more Sam/Dean v. Zombie fic that makes me laugh.

Of water and white t-shirts and other such things by [livejournal.com profile] wolfrider89
Author's summary: Jared isn't stalking Jensen. Not really. He just happens to be wherever Jensen is. It's a good thing, too; if he wasn't, he would miss things like this. Things like Jensen being wet. And that would be a shame.
My input: Best stalker fic, ever! Wait, is that a genre? If it isn't, it should be.

First this, because it is funny:

I've been having luck finding great stories posted long before I joined LJ and some of them are included in this

rec list )   PDF here
Author's Summary: It's a world like this one except for the all-powerful State that's very firmly in control and, oh, the fact that slavery is legal. Jared had never really thought about it, or the fight for freedom going on around him, he was too busy enjoying his privileged life as an actor on a sci-fi show. But what is he meant to do when he's forced to permanently bond to a slave he doesn't want just because he made one silly, drunken mistake? Does it change who he is, what he is? Trouble is, Jared isn't sure who he was to start with. He'd never thought about it. And what about his slave? Can he force Jared into learning something about himself?
My input: Slave!fics are tough, especially when they are not just one-shot PWPs that can be dismissed as pure fantasy. This story tackles the dehumanizing nature of slavery and at times, it is emotionally raw. It won't be everyone's taste, but I thought it was handled skillfully and the writing is excellent.

Antifreeze by [livejournal.com profile] obstinatrix
Author's Summary: Since the wall came down, Sam's been having these dreams. Not nightmares, not quite, but they're Lucifer-cold, wake him up shivering, and he knows he can't take what his soul wants to warm itself with. Or at least, he thinks he knows. Then Dean finds out.
My input: I liked the originality of Sam's hell being not fire and brimstone, but ice and cold and that only Dean can keep him from succumbing to it. A very well-written and touching story (and also hot!). Plus, beautiful art by petite_madame http://petite-madame.livejournal.com/32478.html.

Because Happiness Is You by [livejournal.com profile] akintay
Author's summary: When he's sixteen, Jensen figures out he's gay. One and a half years later, he figures out he's in love with his best friend.
My input: I love high school J2 AU so much, and this is a classic example of what I love about it: there is humor, there is angst, there is the exploration of feelings and there is hope.

Cliche for the fangirl by [livejournal.com profile] fatale
My input: This is an old story that I just found. Parody of fanfic tropes. Hilarious.

ETA: I am not kidding, you have to read this. I just went back and read it again and LMFAO.

Costarfucking: An Idiot's Guide to What Not to Do by [livejournal.com profile] causeways
Author's Summary: Fucking around with your co-star is all well and good until somebody falls in love.
My input: Charming and hilarious. Jensen freaks out, Jared is a dork, together they banter cleverly and there is schmoop and sexiness.

Fall by [livejournal.com profile] veronamay
Author's Summary: Dallas. A bar. At two o'clock in the morning on a Tuesday, Jensen falls.
My input: RPS. This is story from 2006 that touches on Jensen's religious background (of which I know nothing) and the dilemma he faces in his attraction to Jared. Umm.. yeah, it's about that. It is also FREAKIN' HOT.

Happy Plastic People by [livejournal.com profile] anyothergirl415 (at Sinful Desire http://www.sinful-desire.org/archive/viewstory.php?sid=4447)
Author's Summary: In the wake of his family‟s hatred, Jared is left to deal with the pieces of himself. Being friends with a perfect Christian boy like Jensen is downright terrifying but Jared can‟t seem to stay away.
My input: In my opinion, a bit uneven right at the start, but after a few pages the writing smooths out and a really lovely story emerges. I like the way religion is handled in the story and, though I am not religious myself, how truly Christian people are represented in the narrative. It is a well-conceived, well-crafted story.

If I Go Down... by [livejournal.com profile] summer_skin
Author's Summary: "You know," he said conversationally. "If I got zombiefied I'd come after you first." Dean glanced at him out of the corner of his eye but didn't say anything.
My input: I would give a LOT to see this entire dialog integrated into an SPN script. Absolutely hilarious and spot-on.

More for your reading pleasure!

Jared Padalecki and the Pitch of Destiny by [livejournal.com profile] poor_choices
Author's Summary: Jared was going to hide his dorkiness in college. And then his roommate wanted to join the Quidditch league.
My input: No one who plays Quidditch on my campus (oh, yes, they do!) looks like Jensen.

Chronicles of a Dark Steed
by b stearns aka [livejournal.com profile] gekizetsu
My input: Sam and Dean from the perspective of the Impala. Some really clever writing.

Family Comes First
by [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon
Author's Summary: "I can't believe my life has come to this, Sammy. Am I really the kind of guy who asks for a paternity test?" Dean's saying a whole lot more, about family and the road and Dad, but Sam just answers the surface question.
My input: I know it is five years old, but it is worth bringing to the attention to other newbies. A really interesting take on the Sam/Dean dynamic and what would happen if Dean had a kid.

Hewitched by [livejournal.com profile] lizzywinks
Author's Summary: After Jared's last two movies flopped, suddenly the only offers he's getting are for TV, the latest to star in a remake of the classic show "Bewitched". When he unknowingly casts a real witch in the role of Samantha, his problems are only just beginning because Jared needs an assistant, and Danneel has a cousin who would be perfect for the job. (Very loosely based on the movie/TV show Bewitched.)
My input: Charming and very funny story with a conceited, self-absorbed Jared who turns out to be a good guy despite his ego. With a little help from Danneel.

Cowboys & Cupids at County by [livejournal.com profile] dodger_sister
Summary: Chad can’t believe his ex-girlfriend is that awful of a person. Jared can’t believe Chad hasn’t tried dudes yet.
Author's warnings: I’m going to vaguely reference the ABC family Movie of Awful, “Christmas Cupid”. Also, Jared in peach bunny scrubs.
My input: "Christmas Cupid" was a terrible, terrible movie. I can say that even though I gave up on it after watching 7 minutes. [livejournal.com profile] dodger_sister made it all better for me by writing this.

Like Luggage of Some Departed Traveller  by [livejournal.com profile] britomart_is

Author's Summary: Rogue wildlife attacks? Check. Virulent, incurable pandemic? Double check. Relentless string of natural disasters? Check, check, check. Dean's got it hard enough dealing with the collapse of modern society, so imagine his dismay when he goes to Stanford Law to fetch the brother he's been painfully in love with for most of his life and finds that brother happily married. When Sam, Dean, and Jess set off across the country to find their dad, it's all they can do just to stay alive, much less stay true to each other.
My input: Make me laugh and I am likely to rec your fic. Write gripping, angsty, apocalyptic fic? Almost guaranteed I will rec it.

Give them a try!

Siren Song by [livejournal.com profile] killabeez
Author’s Summary: Sam and Dean leave Dean's pregnant wife and daughter behind to hunt for an answer to what's killing Azazel's last remaining psychics. But life on the road means the two of them against the world, just like it always did, and they struggle to find a balance between their fierce love for each other and Dean's commitment to his family. Meanwhile, though Sam forswore his psychic abilities years ago, he is being drawn inevitably into a battle that will demand every weapon at their disposal. Worse, the Winchesters both know that the time will soon come when they must go home and face the consequences of their choices.
My input: I really enjoyed part 1 of this series, And the Devil Makes Three, but this installment was just amazing. I thought the author captured the wrenching conflicting emotions felt by both Sam and Dean, who were struggling with their love and desire for each other, while wanting to preserve Dean’s family. This is framed by a really interesting and intriguing case fic with life and death consequences for Sam.

You Are the One (With Your Finger on the Gun) by [livejournal.com profile] akintay
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] smallworld_inc – see art
Author’s Summary: It's little things at first – Dean's duffel bag being at the other end of the room, his fork missing when he reaches for it, things falling down. By the time Dean realizes that it's Sam moving things with his mind, the situation is already threatening to get out of hand. Sam can't control his sudden telekinesis and on top of it, there's a ghost to hunt in Virginia, the Yellow Eyed Demon to worry about, and Dean has his own problem to deal with. Years ago, before Sam left them for Stanford, he kissed Dean and Dean can't forget about it. As time passes, it becomes harder and harder for him to pretend he's not in love with Sam and he can't stop himself from wanting things he knows he can't have.
My input: Set in season 2 and does a lovely job of capturing the tone of that season as well as depicting the evolving relationship between Sam and Dean in a natural and convincing way.

2 stories by [livejournal.com profile] transfixeddream:
Bigger Than a Toaster, Smaller Than an Atomic Bomb
Author’s Summary: Jared's very glad to get home after a long day's work.
Say "I Do (Not Know How That Ninja Followed Me Home)"
Author’s Summary: Jared defuses bombs for a living, but there's no question that this is the single most stressful thing he's ever done.
My input: These stories are hilarious and HOT! Jared is smokin; and Jensen is adorable. I really hope there will be more.

Gemini Rising by [livejournal.com profile] aletheo
Author’s Summary: In the three-thousand years after Terra, humanity flourished in a Golden Age of prosperity and happiness. Until the silicates. No means to communicate, no method for diplomacy, mankind fought back against the onslaught with all they had, but they were slowly losing the war. At the brink of extinction, man's greatest hope lies with two young men who's extraordinary abilities have shockingly and violently awoken.
My input: A really intriguing science fiction idea that beautifuly incorporates the personas of Jensen and Jared. A thrilling story with a lovely romance. In space.

To the Stars and Back by [livejournal.com profile] cleflink
Author’s Summary: 90% of the human race thinks the Solar System is an alien free zone. They're all wrong, but luckily there are people around who make sure that what they don't known can't hurt them. Jensen was one of these people until his job got axed, but he and his Earth boyfriend, Jared, are about to have the chance to change that. Question is, how will a relationship based primarily on clever banter and really hot sex fare when they're dealing with a conspiracy that threatens the safety of the entire world?
My input: Why did this make me think of Moonlighting? In space.

Between Stars
by [livejournal.com profile] laulan
Author’s Summary: Best friends Jared and Jensen have been working as a smuggling team for years now on their little spaceship Rosie, slipping under the radar of the law and lawless alike. It's a good life--well, as good as smuggling gets, anyway. Then Jensen's arranged fiance Danneel shows up and joins the crew, turning things upside down, and Jared's forced to reevaluate how he feels about Jensen. After that, it gets complicated and dangerous: bounty hunters, a rebellion, kidnapping, and an impossible rescue attempt. Will Jared, Jensen, and Danneel make it out of this mess intact? Takes inspiration from Star Wars, Firefly, and Star Trek.
My input: Some angst, lots of witty banter, realistic moments of jeapordy, well-written characters, and epic romance. In space.
